This Week in Robotics: 10/16/2023

Robotics is a rapidly growing and changing industry. Each week we put together a collection of stories to help keep you up to date. Unfortunately, we can't cover everything each week, but we try to provide updates that we think are relevant to your career in robotics.

Continental, a German multinational automotive parts manufacturer, has acquired KINEXON's robot operating system. KINEXON is a German-based Internet of Things (IoT) hardware and software developer. The KINEXON Operating System is a real-time operating system that enables analysis, optimization, and automation of processes.

Amazon has announced that it has two new robotic solutions as part of the over 750,000 robots that are now working alongside their employees. The first is Sequoia, an autonomous mobile robot (AMR) used in a goods-to-person solution. The second is Digit, a humanoid robot from Agility Robotics. The initial application that Amazon will be using Digit for is tote recycling, which is the highly repetitive process of moving empty totes. Agility Robotics has been partnered with Amazon for well over a year, since Amazon invested in Agility as part of the Amazon Industrial Innovation Fund.
