Apptronik joins the long list of companies that have recently unveiled plans for a commercial humanoid robot. The Apptronik Apollo is the results of the company's experience in developing robot's, especially the NASA Valkyrie. The Robot Report podcast (see below) broke the news with Apptronik CEO and co-founder Jeff Cardenas. For some basic information on the Appollo robot check out the image and video below.
AeroVironment, Inc, a defense contractor that primarily designs and manufactures unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), announced this week that it plans to acquire Tomahawk Robotics. Tomahawk was founded in 2018, has received $2.4 million in funding so far, and will be acquired by AeroVironment for $120 million. This complimentary acquisition will lead to enhanced interoperability of unmanned systems in the defense industry.
Locus Robotics has announced that they have surpassed 2 billion units picked. This is a big announcement from the company that shows the exponential growth of their logistics solutions. Less than one year ago Locus announced that they had surpassed 1 billion units picked, which took the company approximately six years to achieve.
Mendaera, a healthcare robotics company, has raised $24 million over two rounds of funding this week. The company plans to use this investment to expand its production facility to support future growth and operations.
Although the Microsoft Kinect has been discontinued twice, Microsoft still shows interest in 3D computer vision through their newly announced partnership with Orbbec. The new Femto line of cameras from Orbbec has three models. The Femto Mega and Femto Mega I are both available for purchase; however, the Femto Bolt is not available at this time.
