Robotics is a rapidly growing and changing industry. Each week we put together a collection of stories to help keep you up to date. Unfortunately, we can't cover everything each week, but we try to provide updates that we think are relevant to your career in robotics.


ANYbotics Announce New Partnerships


ANYbotics, a Swiss robotics company that provides legged robots for industrial applications, announced two partnerships this week. The first is with Sigma Enterprises who will act as a reseller partner in the UAE, and the second is with Nihon Binary who will act as a reseller partner in Japan. Both companies plan to use the ANYmal system for inspection of large facility operations in the oil and gas, power, chemicals, metals, and transportation sectors. Using ANYmal in Ex-zones (an area in which an explosive gas atmosphere is likely to occur in normal operation occasionally) will keep human workers out of unsafe environments while simultaneously allowing those companies to scale up inspections of their facilities.


Aurora Raises $820M


A few weeks ago, Aurora announced that it was looking to raise about $820M in investment deals. This week, it was announced that Aurora closed on this investment. This raise is the result of a $220M public offering and a $600M private offering.


Iris Ohyama to acquire Smile Robotics


Iris Ohyama, a Japanese consumer plastic manufacture, plans to acquire Smile Robotics. An official figure has not been discolosed, but the acquisition is expected to around $7M.


Astrobotic Wins $34.6M


Astrobotic is gearing up for its first trip to the moon with a $34.6M NASA Tipping Point partnership to demonstrate power transmission on the lunar surface. This creates the opportunity for Astrobotic’s LunaGrid service to provide commercial power services on the lunar surface.

Locus Robotics Breaks Ground for New Global Headquarters


Locus Robotics, who develop autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) for logistics applications, broke ground on their new headquarters in Wilmington, MA. Locus has seen considerable growth since being founded in 2014 with robots deployed to approximately 200 sites around the world, with as many as 500 robots per site. This new headquarters is expected to fuel further growth for the company and contribute to the local economy.


Collaborative Robotics Raises $30M


Collaborative Robotics has raised $30M in Series A funding, which they intend to use to scale the company and manufacturing. Although Collaborative Robotics has not publicly released any information about what they are developing, they have clearly stated that their vision is robotic systems can safely operate in human occupied environments.
